Lancer girls lose to Columbus Grove

The Lincolnview girls’ basketball team lost a hard-fought battle to Columbus Grove in a Northwest Conference game played at Lincolnview on Thursday.
The Lancers trailed by a basket, 14-12, at the end of the first period, but were outscored 11-7 in the second stanza to give the Lady Bulldogs a 25-19 lead at halftime.
Columbus Grove kept the pressure up in the second half, outscoring the Lady Lancers 27-21 in the half for the 52-40 victory, thanks to an 8-of-12 performance at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Lincolnview two players in double figures, led by Katie Dye’s 13 points. Dye’s sister, Claire, also scored 10 points for the Lancers.
Columbus Grove had three players in double figures, led by Nikki Stechschulte’s 15 points. Katelyn Scott added 14 points and Anna Ricker scored 11 for the Lady ‘Dogs.
With the victory, Columbus Grove is 4-3 on the year and 1-2 in the NWC, while the Lancers are 3-4 and 1-2 in league play.
The junior varsity game was a close one, with Grove’s JVs edging Lincolnview 28-26. It was the first league loss for the Lady Lancer JVs, who are now 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the NWC.
The Lancers will next play in the Parkway Holiday Invitational on December 29, starting at 3 p.m. against River Valley.
