SWCD has tree seedlings available

The Van Wert Soil and Water Conservation District has begun taking orders for tree seedlings.  The seedlings are available in packets of ten at a minimal cost.  Orders will be accepted until March 16, 2012.

The following seedling species are available in packets of ten:  American Arborvitae, Austrian Pine, Colorado Blue Spruce, Eastern Red Cedar, Eastern White Pine, Norway Spruce, American Cranberry, Arrowwood, Black Chokeberry, Black Walnut, Red Maple, Sawtooth Oak, and Tulip Poplar.

Special assorted packets that are available are:

• Homeowner Packet, which consists of two of the following:  Colorado Blue Spruce, Arrowwood, Red Maple, Tulip Poplar, American Arborvitae.
• Wildlife Packet, which consists of two of the following:  Red Cedar, Black Walnut, Sawtooth Oak, American Cranberry, Black Chokeberry.

Three seed packets are available. They include: Wildflower Seed, Hummingbird Seed, and Bird and Butterfly Seed. The Wildflower Seed contains 10-12 different annual and 10-12 different perennial species adapted for this area. The Hummingbird Seed contains 4-6 different annual and 4-6 different perennial varieties. The Bird and Butterfly Seed contains 7-9 different annual and 7-9 different perennial varieties.

This program is open to the public.  Order forms are available in the SWCD office, 1185 Professional Drive in Van Wert, or by calling 419.238.9591. Orders will be accepted until Friday, March 16.  The delivery date of the orders is mid-April. Payment is required when placing orders.
