Charles Edward “Ed” Dunno, 85, of Van Wert, died Friday morning, January 6, 2012, at his residence.

He was born June 25, 1926, in Elwood, Ind., the son of the late Charles and Pearle (Snyder) Dunno. On March 19, 1949, he married Lois Charlene (Stenger) Dunno, who preceded him in death on September 4, 2007.

Ed was born in Elwood, Ind., and moved with the family to Van Wert in 1935. He served in Germany with the U.S. Army during World War II (1943-1946) as a military policeman. He drove truck for many years for Globe Dairy Company and Gressel Eggs, then worked and retired from Harter Corporation. He always loved horses and lived for many years in York Township with wife Lois and the boys.

He was a life member of Robert G. Longwell Post 5803, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Van Wert.

Survivors include four sons, Tedd (Vicky) Dunno of Silver Lake, Ind., Thomas E. (Linda) Dunno of Van Wert, Robert L. Dunno of Portland, Ore., and Donn (Joy) Dunno of Decatur, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Dunno, in Texas; seven grandchildren, Dr. Tawny (Ernest) Chamberlain of Richmond, Va., Andrew Dunno of Tucson, Ariz., Andrea (Nico) Nitti of Schaumburg, Ill., Stephanie (Brian) Quinlan of Indianapolis, Ind., and Samantha and Victor Dunno, both of Decatur, Ind.; and three great-grandchildren, Alexandria and William Quinlan of Indianapolis, and Carmela Nitti of Schaumburg, Ill.

A son, Daniel, who died at birth; seven brothers, Jeff Winemiller, and Fafayette, Luther, Zura, Charles W., William and Earl Dunno; and a sister, Bertha Etgen, also preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 12, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will follow, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors unit of VFW Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178.

Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, at the funeral home.
