Marlin swimmers do well at tournament

MARION — The YMCA Marlins traveled to Marion on January 15  to compete in the Northwest Ohio YMCA Pentathlon.

As part of the event, swimmers compete in all five strokes (freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and individual medley) and their times are combined and ranked by age to determine an overall winner.

Coach Lanna Pollock was very pleased with her team’s performance. Daniel Miller, Andrew Henkaline and Addison Henkaline finished fourth in their respective age group.  Risa Pollock finished eighth, Erin Miller 19th and Bethany Fast 14th.

Emma Pollock finished first and established new meet records in the 25 freestyle (15.11) and the 25 butterfly (18.33). Pollock was denied a probable first place overall finish due to a disqualification in the individual medley race on a technicality.  Katie McVaigh finished second in the 50 freestyle (31.62) and eclipsed the old record set by teammate Addison Henkaline last year. McVaigh was denied a possible overall fourth place finish due to a disqualification on a technicality in the 50 butterfly.

• 8 & Under Girls: Emma Pollock – 1^st 25 Free and 25 Fly; 3^rd 25 Back and 25 Breast.
• 8 & Under Boys: Daniel Miller – 3^rd 25 Free and 25 Breast; 5^th 25 Fly and 25 Back.
• 10 & Under Girls: Risa Pollock – 8^th 50 Breast; 13^th 50 Fly; 14^th 50 Back; 16^th 50 Free.  Katie McVaigh – 2^nd 50 Free; 4^th 100 IM; 5^th 50 Back and 12^th 50 Breast.
• 10 & Under Boys: Andrew Henkaline – 3^rd 50 Free; 5^th 100 IM; 6^th 50 Fly and 50 Back; 10^th 50 Breast.
• 11-12 Girls: Addison Henkaline – 4^th 50 Breast; 5^th 50 Free, 50 Back and 100 IM; 6^th 50 Fly.  Erin Miller – 23^rd 50 Back and 100 IM; 25^th 50 Fly and 30^th 50 Free.
• 13-14 Girls: Bethany Fast – 11^th 100 Fly and 100 Breast; 16^th 100 Free and 100 Breast; 17^th 100 Back and 200 IM.
