Cougar swimmers get win over Defiance

DEFIANCE — The Van Wert Cougar swim teams both brought home victories, as they took on the Defiance bulldogs in a dual meet at the Defiance YMCA. Van Wert girls won 94-73 and the boys won 88-73.

Van Wert swimmers placing first in individual events included: Erin Dingle (100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke), Taylor Grooms (200-yard individual medley and 100-yard freestyle), Eric Easley (50-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle), Matt Cucciarre (100-yard backstroke), Trey Stemen (100-yard butterfly), Hannah Stemen (50-yard freestyle), and Katelyn Koontz (100-yard breaststroke).

Cougar winning relays were:  girls 200-yard medley (Brittany Jurczyk, Taylor Grooms, Karlyn Koontz, Briana Agler); boys  200-yard freestyle (Cody Hanes, Trey Stemen, Kase Schalois, AJ Foster); and boys 400-yard freestyle (Adam Jurczyk, Eric Easley, Matt Cucciarre, Trey Stemen).

The Cougar swimmers return to action on Saturday when they travel back to Defiance for the Western Buckeye League championships.
