Unique classes, dramatic exhibits planned
By Hope Wallace

In the midst of all the many new things happening at the Wassenberg Art Center, one thing is a constant, and that is our class schedule. Upcoming this Saturday we have Initial Line Art 2D and following that Line Art 3D. Line Art 2D is taught by Scott Kraemer in the morning. 3D is taught in the afternoon by both Scott and Hope Wallace. In Line Art 2D, we explore what can be done with simple black lines creating illustrations and pattern variations. In Line Art 3D we take that information and apply it to a white bisque mug. We’ll then fire the mug with a clear glaze, and tada! …The mug is ready for coffee!
Premier Coup sometimes called Alla Prima, is where participants create a painting in one evening. This literally translates into “at one sitting”. Bring a bottle of wine to share with friends and you will go home with a finished painting! This class, taught by Brooke Lancey, is designed for non-artists and artists alike to learn how to let loose and have a little fun.
Printmaking for adults with popular instructor Matthew Temple is starting on February 2. Matt explores the less heard of techniques regarding recreating your art in interesting and unique ways. Printmaking is a great way to make greeting cards with a truly personal touch.
Dynamic Watercolor with Pat Rayman follows on Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28. This class, as the name implies, is truly dynamic and changing where many different techniques are explored. Some of these techniques will surprise you. For further class information please call us here at the art center.
Artwork sits quietly in the galleries waiting to be exhibited and we can’t wait until it is

hanging on the walls in all its glory. The first exhibit of the late, American ceramic artist, Clyde Burt, will be showcased in our front galleries. This is the first time since his death in 1981 that his work has been publically exhibited. The show, in conjunction with the Indiana Wildlife Artists Association, will run February 4-24. Burt is a nationally known pioneer of American Studio ceramics. He won the Art Institute of Chicago Designer-Craftsman Award in 1957 and there are pieces of his in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C. A public reception will be held on Saturday, February 4 from 6-8 p.m. Additional information regarding this enigmatic artist will be coming up. Let us share this touching story in the form of dramatic tile wall murals.
“Walk on the Wild Side” will also be opening on that Saturday night along with the Clyde Burt exhibit. The Indiana Wildlife Artists have work nationally published and strive to educate the public regarding the importance of conservation. Again, great snacks for everyone and wine tasting. This combined exhibit will not disappoint. Admission is always free and we are open Tuesday through Sunday, from 1-5 p.m. during exhibits.
