Parkway seeking input on NWC inquiry

For the second time in three years, two area schools have been asked to consider joining the Northwest Conference.

Midwest Athletic Conference members Parkway and Delphos St. John’s both recently received inquries, not official invitations, to consider joining the NWC. The two schools were officially invited in 2023, but both declined. Now, the NWC has reached out to the schools again.

“A letter of interest was sent to both Delphos St John’s and Parkway and at this time we continue to look for ways to enhance the NWC,” NWC Commissioner Jon Derryberry said Tuesday night.

In a Facebook post, Parkway Local Schools confirmed the inquiry and school officials are seeking public input.

“As we evaluate this opportunity alongside our current membership in the MAC, your perspective is vital,” the post said. “Our goal is to ensure the best long-term environment for our student-athletes. Please take a few minutes to complete our anonymous survey.”

The survey can be found here. The survey will close at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.

A source said Delphos St. John’s has also received an inquiry to join. Athletic Director Todd Schulte did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

After being declined by Parkway and Delphos St. John’s in 2023, the NWC agreed to add Lima Central Catholic for four years and Fort Loramie for two years as a football-only member. The school is a member of the Shelby County Athletic League for all other sports. It’s unknown how, if at all, their status in the conference would be affected if Parkway and/or Delphos St. John’s agreed to join.
