VW Marlins do well at Tiffin Invitational

TIFFIN — The YMCA Marlins traveled to Tiffin this past Saturday to compete in the Tiffin Invitational with over 250 swimmers from 13 teams competed.  The invitational was the last large competition prior to Northwest Ohio Sectionals at Defiance on March 3.

Qualifiers at sectionals will then compete at Northwest Ohio championships on March 10-11 at Freemont.  At Tiffin, the Marlins as a whole showed great promise for the upcoming championship action. Emma Pollock and Daniel Miller were top performers in the 8 and under age bracket.  Pollock captured three firsts while Miller finished with two first place finishes.  In the 9-10 girls, Katie McVaigh swam her way to three thirds and two fourth place finishes. In the 11-12 girls competition, Addison Henkaline collected one second, two thirds and a fourth place finish.

8 & Under Girls: Emma Pollock – 1^st 100 IM, 25 freestyle and 50 freestyle; 2^nd 25 butterfly; 4^th 25 backstroke.

8 & Under Boys: Daniel Miller – 1^st 25 freestyle and 50 freestyle; 4^th 25 breaststroke; 6^th 25 backstroke and 7^th 25 butterfly.

10 & Under Girls: Risa Pollock – 3^rd 50 breaststroke; 4^th 200 freestyle; 9^th 50 freestyle; 10^th 50 backstroke and 100 IM. Katie McVaigh – 3^rd 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle; 4^th 100 IM and 50 freestyle.

10 & Under Boys: Andrew Henkaline – 4^th 200 freestyle; 5^th 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly; 7^th 50 freestyle.

11-12 Girls: Addison Henkaline – 2^nd 100 IM; 3^rd 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke; 4^th 50 backstroke; 5^th 50 butterfly.  Erin Miller – 15^th 50 breaststroke; 19^th 100 IM; 25^th 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly; 29^th 50 freestyle.

11-12 Boys: Aaron Stant – 7^th 50 butterfly; 10^th 100 freestyle; 15^th 50 backstroke and 20^th 50 freestyle.
