AAUW plans ninth Sister to Sister Summit

The American Association of University Women will be presenting its ninth annual Sister to Sister Summit for girls in grades 6-8 on Saturday, March 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the YWCA in Van Wert. The summit is open to all Van Wert County Schools, as well as to Parkway and Delphos.

This year’s theme is “Life is a Balancing Act”, and the focus will be providing participating girls with the tools needed to provide harmony in their lives while trying to balance all that is expected of them. Problem solving, goal setting and personal health and wellness are some of the tools that will be explored.

Speakers for the event are:

  • Kim Keeling, leadership training consultant for the Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce: “Leadership for Yourself and Your Community”.
  • Dawn Cooper, business owner/artisan of Rehab Fab: “Engage Your Creative Side.”
  • Holly Vaughn, certified Zumba instructor for the YWCA and YMCA: “Balance Physical Activity Within Your Daily Routine.”
  • Lindsay Hotmire, former educator and currently a website developer: “Neighbors Helping Neighbors –Make It Happen!”
  • Cindy Wood, director of the Van Wert County Council On Aging: “Careers — Your Future Will Change, Be Ready to Accept the Challenge!”
  • Megan Ramey, Katie Etgen, membership/education specialists, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio: “Cyberbullying — Be Aware of the Dangers in the Media.”
  • Nancy Bowen, former Van Wert County economic development director: “Setting Goals and Balancing Time Within Our Lives.”
  • Carol Trice, Ohio State University Extension education specialist: “How to Put Balance in Your Daily Diet”

The hands-on event, with lunch, breakfast bars, goodie bags, door prizes and all materials, is free to participants. Packets for registration will be available at school offices on February 23, while the registration deadline is March 7.
