Local woman seeks state Republican post

Angela Snyder, a resident of rural Van Wert County, is a candidate for the Republican State Central Committee for Ohio’s 1st Senate District.

One man and one woman are elected from each district. The State Central Committee is the ruling body of the Ohio Republican Party (ORP). It meets three times a year and the seats are elected every two years. The 1st Senate District now includes some or all of the following counties: Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Putnam, Paulding, Van Wert, Auglaize, and Logan.

The Primary election on March 6 determines who will hold the seat for the Committee’s reorganization in late spring. Snyder is running because of the state of turmoil the Committee is experiencing.

“When the foundation of the Party is standing on one leg with a bad knee, it’s time for everyone to step up and take an active role in the rehab,” stated Snyder. “There’s a laundry list of activity that Central Committee and the ORP has engaged in over the past two years for which I have serious misgivings, including the recent contracting with two individuals who were under FBI investigation, donations being spent to protect the committee, and withholding polling data from legislative candidates.

“When hundreds of thousands of dollars, which is an educated estimate, as all Ohio Republican Party monies in State Central Committee races are hidden from the public, are being spent to keep themselves in office: for example, mailings, robo‐calls, radio, etc., there can be no trust in their decisions,” Snyder added. “I spent years working tirelessly to build a party I could believe in. I believe in the ‘broken windows’ theory: when you see a broken window, you fix it. You don’t wait for the floor to cave in.”

Snyder “retired” from active politics more than five years ago after two decades of working as a political operative at every level of politics, from township trustee races to multiple presidential elections.
