CELINA — The Western Ohio Educational Foundation (WOEF) is celebrating its 50th year of incorporation. Julie Miller, WOEF development officer, acknowledges that, “it is by the generosity of all our scholarship contributors that the WOEF Board is able to offer scholarships to students in our area to help offset their college costs.”
The foundation recently received donations from former area teachers and Wright State alumni Tom and Pam Pottkotter and from representatives of First Financial Bank.
“We are really glad for the opportunities WOEF gives local students,” the Pottkotters said. “We enjoy seeing how much the campus has changed.”
The Academic Excellence Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 for 22 local high schools throughout Auglaize, Darke, Mercer and Van Wert counties.
George Brooks, First Financial Bank regional president; and Howard Stammen, senior commercial relationship manager; presented a present a check for $1,000 to Miller to help support the Academic Excellence Scholarship Fund at Wright State Lake Campus.
“We are pleased to continue our support for the WOEF Scholarship program,” Brooks said. “Advancing local financial literacy and education aligns well with the bank’s strategy for targeted giving.”
Since 1995, the WOEF has awarded $1,000 to 117 recipients of this scholarship, $2,000 to 47 recipients, and $3,000 to 209 recipients. The Academic Excellence Scholarship guidelines are based on GPA and class ranking.
There is still time before the February 15 deadline for current and incoming Lake Campus students to complete a scholarship application. Those interested should go to www.wright.edu/lake/woef.html for information on available awards and application guidelines.
