H. Doyle Schmid

H. Doyle “Dudley” Schmid, 83, of Glenmore, died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born January 11, 1929, in Willshire Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Martin Jonathan and Eve Ferne (Hurless) Schmid. On June 1, 1951, he married Jean (Eddy) Schmid, who survives in Glenmore.

Other survivors include two sons, Keith A. (Karen) Schmid of Ohio City and Kent J. (Jane) Schmid of Van Wert; a daughter, Jane E. (Jim) Poling of Convoy; one sister, Marilyn “Jo” (Max) Frye of Van Wert; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A sister, Esther Schumm, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Philip Zielinski officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both of Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 24, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
