Donald Eugene Barna

Donald Eugene “Gene” Barna, 82, of Rockford, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012, at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.

He was born March 12, 1929, the son of the late Sylvester and Julia (Kaschak) Barna. On September 12, 1959, he married Sue (Harmon) Barna, who survives in Rockford.

Other survivors include three children, Gino (Nancy) Barna of Port Clinton, Mark (Mary) Barna of Ohio City and Lisa Perry of Rockford; a brother, Bill (Madelyn) Barna of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Betty Belna of Rockford; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Three brothers, Ron, Dick and Bob Barna, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 27, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with the Rev. James Seibert officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, with graveside military rites performed by American Legion Post 508 in Rockford.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, February 26, and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
