FINDLAY — A Van Wert High School grad has given a generous donation to his college alma mater.

Terry Terhark, VWHS Class of 1980, and his wife, Betty, recently made a $1 million donation to the University of Findlay, the school where Terry Terhark earned a bachelor’s degree from the university’s College of Business.

Not only is Terhark a graduate of the university, but he also sits on Findlay’s College of Business advisory board.

A portion of the donation ($700,000) is earmarked for renovations to Old Main, the oldest University of Findlay campus building, which also includes the school’s College of Business. The other $300,000 will be placed in a scholarship fund, according to Terhark’s brother, Jeff, to be awarded to graduates of Liberty-Benton High School. The Terharks live in the Liberty-Benton school district.

The renovation project will include energy-saving and energy-efficient fixtures and heating system. The facility will also receive cosmetic renovations such as new paint, and technology upgrades as well for the building’s computer labs, classrooms and offices.

Plans are for the project to be completed by the students return this fall.

Terhark is founder of The RightThing, an executive recruiting firm in Findlay, and is currently the company’s CEO. The company has approximately 800 employees. His company was purchased by Automatic Data Processing (ADP) in 2011.

“Becoming a part of ADP is a terrific opportunity that enables us to gain access to the vast global resources needed to significantly expand our reach,” Terhark said at the time of the acquisition by ADP. “The combination of ADP and The RightThing will create immediate and strategic benefits for both businesses in the areas of operational delivery, service breadth, and leading-edge solutions. In addition, we expect to deliver a unique value proposition to clients that are looking for proven HR outsourcing solutions.”
