YMCA announces Kid Fit program

The YMCA of Van Wert County is offering Kid Fit, a new program for young athletes in our community.  Through the Y’s Wellness Department, Kid Fit is a sport based fitness program that will have kids in grades 5-8 participating in circuit training specific and safe for their age.  Athletes this age can strength train safely using proper techniques, low weights or body weight for higher repetitions.

A certified personal trainer will conduct all sessions where training focuses on techniques and form. This also includes an understanding of each muscle group. The speed and agility training focuses on safely developing explosive power and core stability in preparation for high school level competition.

Sessions will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.  Member prices are 10 sessions for $75 or 20 sessions for $140. Potential members prices are 10 sessions for $100 or 20 sessions for $175.  These sessions do not have to be used consecutively, but must be used within a three-month period.

“The Wellness Department is excited to offer this new service to the young athletes in our community,” stated Y Wellness Director Julie Schaufelberger. “We feel that these athletes are in need of fitness activities that address their changing physiques and the issues of coordination and balance that occur during this age.

“Being able to offer a program like this right after school will allow participants an effective method of training that will not only make a difference in their sports, but will allow them to take part in an organized group activity with other kids their age,” Schaufelberger added.

To register, call 419.238.0443 or register online at www.vwymca.org. Call or visit this site for more information, or email Kristin Lichtensteiger, Y community wellness director, at kristin@vwymca.org or Schaufelberger at julie@vwymca.org.

The YMCA of Van Wert County is partially funded by The Van Wert County Foundation and United Way.
