Knights, Jays sectional title winners at VW

Crestview downed the Lincolnview Lancers and the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays defeated Fort Jennings to win sectional tournament championships in the Cougar’s Den at Van Wert High School on Friday.

The Knights started fast and maintained their advantage to win 69-46 in the first game of the night in the Division IV sectional tournament.
Crestview had an eight-point lead at the end of a quarter, 19-11, and was up by 10, 31-21, at the half. It was 54-34, a 20-point lead, by the end of the third quarter.
The Knights were led by Cameron Etzler and Damian Helm, who each had 18 points on the night. Kole Rolsten added 14 points for Crestview. For the Lancers, the leading scorer was Clayton Longstreth, who had 12 points in the game, followed by Kyle Williams (11 points) and Kade Carey, who scored 10 points on the night.
Crestview will now go on to play in the Division IV district tournament semifinals at the Elida Fieldhouse against Delphos St. John’s, which won its sectional championship game at Van Wert over Fort Jennings.
The Blue Jays were 71-40 winners over Jennings in the second game in the Cougar’s Den.
In that game, St. John’s led by only a basket, 13-11, at the end of the first quarter, but the Blue Jays upped their offensive and defensive efforts, outscoring the Musketeers 22-13 in the second stanza to take an 11-point lead, 35-24, at the half. St. John’s continued its defensive pressure, holding Jennings to 6 points only in the third quarter, while scoring 20 for a 25-point lead, 55-30, at the end of the third quarter.
Curtis Geise led the Blue Jays with 21 points, while Ryan Buescher added 18 points and Tanner Calvelage added 9 points for Delphos.
The Musketeers were led by Cody Warnecke’s 18 points, while Tyler Wiedeman and Kurt Warnecke each added 9 points for Fort Jennings.
