Mary Ellen Oglesbee

Mary Ellen Oglesbee, 70, of Van Wert, died at 12:55 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born July 17, 1941, in Dione, Ky., the daughter of the late Daniel Boone and Sinda (Cornett) Helton. On October 2, 1970, she married Roger D. Oglesbee, who survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Beverly (Rick) Boroff and Cheryl Howell, both of Van Wert, and Lusinda (Rick) Simpkins of Elida; two sons, Phillip (Cindy) Howell of Streetsboro and Roger Oglesbee Jr. of Celina; two sisters, Ann Yaden of Bardstown, Ky., and Betty Lowe of Spencer, W.Va.; a special niece, Mary Ann (Scott) Sager of Liberty Center; 10 grandchildren, Hillary (Bill) Steiger, Matt (Kari) Rodriguez, Danielle (Kevin) Longstreth, Terra Howell, Tori Simpkins, Breanna (Blaine) Dennis, Sarah Aurand, Morgan Felger, Evan Oglesbee, and Ethan Oglesbee; and six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Zach, Austin and Gabby Rodriguez, Jade Steiger and Grady Longstreth.

Six brothers, Alonzo Helton, Orville Helton, Columbus Helton, Howard Helton, Jackie Helton, and Arnold Helton, and four sisters, Goldie Doss, Bonnie Gilliam, Mattie Jackson and Mildred Helton-Fields, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Oglesbee was a homemaker and she attended First United Brethren in Christ Church in Van Wert. She was adored by many and loved to cook for her 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Jodi Harr officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, and an hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
