Lincoln Highway garden flags on sale

The time for the annual gigantic yard sale promotions is quickly approaching.  The Lincoln Highway BuyWay Yard Sale is scheduled for August 9-11.  Van Wert has been one the premier locations for Lincoln Highway sales for the past six years and it is anticipated that many local residents will take part again this year.

Next year will also be the 100th birthday of the Lincoln Highway and many events nationwide are being planned.  Locally, the Van Wert Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Main Street Van Wert, and the Office of Economic Development are cooperating to organize special activities in 1213 that will commemorate the place the Lincoln Highway holds in the story of Van Wert County.

For those who live along the Lincoln Highway, it would be appropriate to, in some way, do their own small part in both the Lincoln Highway Yard Sale and in next year’s birthday celebration. To help Lincoln Highway residents, the Convention and Visitors Bureau is making available 12-by-18 inch Lincoln Highway garden flags that they can display in their flower garden or somewhere special on their property.  The flags sell for $15 each and metal wickets are also available for $12.

The flags can be purchased at the Convention and Visitors, 136 E. Main St., during regular business hours: 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For those whose shopping normally takes place on the weekends, the flags are also available at the Lincoln Highway Country Store, 14514 Lincoln Highway, just east of The Marsh Foundation. Hours there are Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m.
