PAULDING – The Lincolnview girls’ basketball team got up early and then held on to defeat Paulding 52-40 in a Northwest Conference game played Thursday at Paulding.
The Lady Lancers led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter and then went on a 26-12 second-quarter tear to go up by 20 points, 36-16, at the half.
Lincolnview needed that cushion because the Lady Panthers came out scratching in the third period, scoring nine points more than the Lancers, 17-8, to trail by 11, 44-33, heading into the final stanza.
But Lincolnview kept its cool, adding another point to its lead for the 52-40 final score.
Lancer sophomore Kaitlyn Brant led Lincolnview with 13 points, while classmate Katie Dye added 11 points and Morgan Peel and Kaylee Thatcher each scored 8 points for the Lancers. Jessica Farr, Paulding’s 6-foot sophomore post, canned 19 points to lead all scorers, while Jade Vogel added 9 points and Ashley Meyers scored 8 for the Lady Panthers.
The Lancers outshot Paulding from the field, making 24 of 51 field goal attempts for 47.1 percent. Paulding was 15 of 39 for 38.5 percent). Lincolnview didn’t do well from three-point range, though, missing all six attempts from beyond the arc. The Panthers made 3 of 9 three-point attempts (33.3 percent).
Neither team was on at the line, with the Lancers hitting 4 of 10 free throws (40 percent) and Paulding canning 7 of 18 (38.9 percent).
Lincolnview dominated the boards, bringing down 26 rebounds – 10 of those offensive caroms – to 13 for the Panthers.
The Lancers’ defense also did well. Although Lincolnview had only one fewer turnover, 15-16, Lincolnview had 11 steals to just 2 for the Panthers.
