VW boy bowlers lose to Wapak, girls win

The WOHSBC league rolled in Van Wert on Saturday with the 16-team boys’ league taking to the lanes first.  The Cougars rolled against a tough Wapakoneta team, with the Redskins dominating the first regular game by 100 pins. In the second regular game the Cougars fought back, gaining 68 pins to cut the Wapak lead to a mere 32 pins.

In the baker games, the teams rolled close, with Van Wert cutting the lead to 19 pins but unable to hold the Redskins off in the final baker games to take its fourth loss on the season by 107 pins, 2766-2873.

High regular games for the Cougars were Jordan Dettrow, 253; Nate Simson, 226 and 218; Chris Thatcher, 223 and 208; and Alex Unterbrink, 217 and 170.

With the loss the Cougars drop to 10-4, in fourth place going into the final week in Lima. The Van Wert boys will roll against Ansonia (2-12) at 20th Century Lanes this coming Saturday.

In the next shift at Van Wert’s Olympic Lanes, the girls took to the lanes, with the Cougars of Van Wert rolling against the Marion Local Flyers.

As the host team for the event, the Lady Cougars took control from the beginning and never looked back gaining pins in every game. In the regular games, Van Wert started out in the first game with a 114-pin advantage, but caught on fire in the second game the Cougars, gaining 364 more pins to take a 478-pin advantage into the baker games.

It was also all Cougars in the baker games, as Van Wert won the match by 654 pins, 2471-1820.

High scores for the winning Cougars were Kayla Waldron, 207; Kylie Allenbaugh, 203 and 178; Taylor Beair, 172 and 169; Tyler Metzger, 169; and Rachel Dettrow, 165.

With the win, the Lady Cougars improve their record to 7-4 on the season. The Van Wert girls will roll their final match in Lima next Saturday against the Parkway Panthers (2-9).
