Ruth A. Hughes

Ruth A. Hughes, 87, of Van Wert, died at 6:58 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born September 17, 1924, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late William and Ila (Southwick) Mohler. She married Dr. Donald E. Hughes, who preceded her in death on September 25, 1992.

Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert. She also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Willow Bend Country Club in Va Wert, Twigs, the former Van Wert Woman’s Club, a former member of Sweet Adelines, and a member and past president of the fort Wayne Wally Byam Airstream Club.

Survivors include three children, Brett (Jann) Hughes of Versailles, Ky., Douglas Hughes of Helena, Mont., and Shirley (Eric) Kibler of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Dorothy (Phillip) Henderson of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A son, Glenn Hughes, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Hal Shafer officiating.

Calling hours are from noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Community Health Professionals, 1159 Westwood Drive, Van Wert, OH 45891, and the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
