The All-Twig Board of Van Wert County Hospital recently presented a $35,000 check in support of hospital equipment upgrades.
“The Twig Association continues to play an instrumental role at Van Wert County Hospital,” says hospital President/CEO Mark Minick. “The Twig Association raises funds to provide our community with state-of-the art equipment. We greatly appreciate their monetary support as well as their time and talents.”
Since their formation in 1953, the Twig groups have donated more than $1 million to the hospital.
“What I feel in my heart is the camaraderie of the Twig groups to help support the hospital, which in turn helps our community,” said Dee Jackson, All-Twig Board chairperson. “We are paying it forward. In Van Wert, we are a community and we take care of one another. It is awesome that we live in place that has a heart for giving.”
The Twig Association is a vital resource to the Van Wert County Hospital by contributing financially to the hospital through a variety of service projects. Twig I and Twig II groups operate the hospital Thrift Shop located at 131 E. Central Ave. in downtown Van Wert. Twig III manages the hospital gift shop inside the main entrance of the hospital, as well as the yearly Tree of Lights memorial fundraiser. Twig IV hosts monthly bake sales, a book and jewelry fair and a yearly poinsettia sale in November.
This generous donation provides for the purchase of four new or replacement pieces of equipment:
- A replacement electro-cardiograph machine that is used for coronary testing for patients preparing for surgery.
- A slit lamp and table package used in the diagnosis of eye injuries.
- Two Passport V monitors to monitor patient vital signs, as well as oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, during invasive procedures like colonoscopies.
Being a volunteer is one of the most generous ways to share one’s time and talents. For more information regarding the Twig Association, call 419.238.8623 or visit the hospital website at VanWertHospital.org.
