New business opens
Juli Hamilton (above) officially cut the ribbon on the unique farmer’s market operation she operates on her three-generation family farm located northeast of Van Wert on U.S. 224. Hamilton’s business, called Something from the Garden, features a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as cut flowers (special orders also filled) and other staples, including baked goods. Hamilton, who has a degree in horticulture, said it took her some time to figure out what she wanted to do with her agriculture background. Hamilton received a small business loan from the Revolving Loan Fund last year and was also the winner of the Local Small Business Challenge, a business plan challenge, earlier this year. Hours for the business are 4.7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 2-6 p.m. on Saturdays. (Dave Mosier/Van Wert independent)
