Entry procedure for County Fair photo exhibit
By Rex Dolby
As mentioned in last week’s column, the deadline to enter pictures for the Van Wert County Fair’s photography exhibit is Noon, Wednesday, August 1. This report will detail what needs to be completed by that date.
If you have access to a computer, search www.vanwertcountyfair.com and on the left column click Premium Book. When the page comes up, click on the gray 2012 Van Wert County Fair Book and scroll down to page 7, table of contents. Locate the Entry Form-General and note that it is found on page 76. Click there and either print off that form, or go to the Fair Board office between the hours of 9-5, Monday-Friday or 9-12 on Saturday to get a form. If you don’t have a computer, stop in at the Wassenberg Art Center during regular hours and we’ll give you a copy of the form.
To know how to fill the form in properly, you will have to go to Photography-Dept. Q on page 68. For seniors and youth, the Dept. Letter is Q for every picture. For seniors, the Division number is 1601 for color and 1602 for B/W. For youth, 1603 is color and 1604 for B/W.
Seniors and Juniors will use the same class numbers for their pictures. 01 for Around the Fair, 02 for Landscape, 03 for Fresh Produce, 04 for In the Air, and 05 for Dolls
One picture can be entered in each class of the two divisions. When you decide which divisions and classes you plan to enter (there’s no penalty if you decide later not to enter a planned picture) and fill out the entry form, you are ready to take it and $18 for a ticket, to the Fair Board Office, between the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday and 9 a.m.–12 noon on Saturday. If you have a question, the Fair Board’s number is 419-238-9270.
Of the rules that need to be followed, number 11 has caused some confusion prior. It states: Frames with opening no larger than 8″x10″ may be used. Panoramic frame openings cannot exceed 5″x12″. People are so used to the picture being 8×10, (which it still can be) and the frame around it being whatever size to make it look good that they miss the fact that it is the frame opening that can’t exceed 8 inches x 12 inches. Read the rules carefully before preparing your pictures.
The Van Wert County Fair exhibit is sponsored in part by the Van Wert County Foundation.
The Wassenberg Art Center’s hours during exhibits are: Tuesday through Sunday 1–5 p.m. and you may contact the art center at 419.238.6837, by email: info@wassenbergartcenter.org or via our website at: wassenbergartcenter.org. The Wassenberg Art Center is located at 643 South Washington Street in Van Wert.
