VW Patrol Post commander named

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced its selection of a new commander for the Van Wert Post to replace Lt. Raymond Haas, whose retirement was official this past Friday.

Sergeant Leslie D. Brode was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on Tuesday by Colonel John Born, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony held at the Patrol Academy.

Lt. Brode, who was formerly assistant post commander at the Chardon Post, will transfer to Van Wert in the near future.

Brode began his career with the Patrol in September 2000 as a member of the 136^th Patrol Academy Class. He earned his commission in March of the following year and was assigned to the Canton Post. In 2006, he transferred to the Patrol’s Training Academy, where he was promoted to sergeant in 2007. Later that year, he was transferred to the Hiram Post.

In 2010, Brode earned the prestigious Superintendent’s Citation of Merit Award for saving the life of an elderly woman who was trapped inside her burning vehicle following an accident. The next year, he transferred to the Chardon Post.

Brode earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in criminal justice from the Air Force Community College in 2010. He currently resides in Rome with his wife, Chandra, and their two children, Devin, 4, and Addison, 2.
