When Pigs Fly winner
Carlos Tyas (above) was the winner of the first “When Pigs Fly” event held during this year’s annual Van Wert Area Convention & Visitors Bureau Rib Fest. The United Way of Van Wert County sold tickets for the purchase of a numbered pig. The little plastic pigs were then dropped from the fire department’s ladder truck over a target at the fairgrounds. Prizes were awarded for the pig closest to the target, second closest, and for the pig landing the furthest away. Tyas won the first place award of $750 and is shown receiving his check from United Way Executive director Deb Russell (left) and Board President Lori Garwood. Second place went to Reese Graff and third place to Brenda Nieman, who both received $250. The United Way thanked everyone who purchased a ticket and also the sponsor of the event, First Federal Savings and Loan. (United Way photo)
