ARLINGTON — The Van Wert Cougar golf team competed in its third straight 18-hole event this week at Sycamore Springs in Arlington. The field usually includes many teams hoping to make district in early October and some really strong small school Findlay area teams.

The Cougars managed a 339 from the blue tees, placing them disappointingly seventh of 11 teams. Jacob Brake shot 81, Brandon Hernandez an 84, Tyler Turnwald 83, Adam Jurczyk a 91 and Luke Etzler 92.
“This tournament should indicate how much work we need to do as a group yet this season to compete for a WBL title,” said Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood. “We are making too many mistakes, considering the talent and experience we have back.
“We played like we are capable of on Monday, shooting 314,” Hood said, adding, “I am counting on the guys to rebound on Friday at the Celina Invitational.”
The Cougar junior varsity team will be in action Thursday at Celina.
