Community Days fest to see new events

CONVOY — Convoy Community Days will be celebrated Friday through Sunday, September 21-23, at Convoy Edgewood Park. Many events for all ages are being planned for the weekend festival.
Lions Club Bingo 6-9 p.m. in the building on Friday, September 21, and Saturday, September 22.
Three new events will be introduced at this year’s festival. The first new event is a “Tug-A-Truck” that will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, September 21. Grandstand seats can be had for a $5 donation or a donation of nonperishable food items worth $5, while a pit pass will cost $10, with an 80-percent payback per class. Classes include 5,500, 7,500, and 9,500 pounds. The Convoy Fire & EMS will be having a Pancake & Sausage Breakfast from 7-9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 22, at the fire station. Eat breakfast and check out the new fire trucks and other fire and EMS equipment.
A Kids’ Wiffleball Tournament for kids up to age 15 will be held all day on Saturday, September 22. Contact Steve Richardson at 419.513.1147 for more information.
There will be plenty of other events as well.
Basket Bingo will be held on Saturday, September 22, at the Edgewood Park Community Building, Doors open at 8:30 a.m., while Early Bird Bingo will start at 9 that morning and regular Basket Bingo at 9:30 a.m. Those interested can purchase 20 games for $20.
The prize baskets will be filled with goodies sponsored by Convoy area businesses. A raffle will also be held during the Bingo games. For more information, contact event co-chairmen Deb Miller or Jason Dettrow at 419.749.4181
On Friday, there will be a chicken dinner hosted by Gibson’s Barnyard BBQ from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, featuring a half-chicken and sides, while sandwiches will be available all day and a boneless pork chop dinner at 3 p.m. Saturday and a sandwich and dessert bar offered on Sunday. Kid’s meals will be available on Friday and Saturday.
A men’s softball tournament will be held Saturday, September 22, and coed softball tourney on Sunday, September 23, at the Edgewood Park ballfields. Contact Timothy Bolenbaugh at 419.749.2525 to register a team.
Kids activities include First Aid for Kids at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 22, Kiddy Tractor Pull at 11 a.m. (registration begins at 10 that morning); kids’ games, beginning at 10 a.m. in the tent on the tennis court; the Barrel Train Express all day; pony rides from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, and the Mark’s Ark Animal Show at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The 2012 Convoy Community Days Parade, with the theme, “Crestview, Carrying on a Winning Tradition”, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 22, with lineup at 1 that afternoon at Crestview Local Schools. Grand marshals will be the 2012 Crestview Lady Knight state champion softball team. The Van Wert Area Cushman’s Club will be participating in the 2012 Convoy Community Days Parade. Check out the bikes and talk with the club members after the parade at the park.
The 2012 MICHINDOH Pulling Series Points Finale will be held Saturday, September 22, starting at 6 p.m. at the rear of Edgewood Park. A 5K Run/Walk will be held Sunday, September 23, with registration to begin at 12:30 p.m. and the race at 1:30 that afternoon (contact Cary Mathew at 419.749.2651 for more information). Preregister by September 10 and receive a free t-shirt. Registration forms are available online at the village website.
A cornhole toss tournament will be held Saturday, September 22, with registration starting at 2:30 p.m. at the truck pull area in Edgewood Park. The double-elimination tourney will feature two-man teams in two divisions — under 18 and open — for a registration fee of $20 per team. The tournament will feature a 75 percent payout. Get reverse raffle tickets today at The Tavern, Convoy village offices, Secret Garden Floral & Gifts, Knight Pizza, Thatcher Kulwicki Insurance Agency, Remedies, The Sophisti-Cut or by contacting Amy at 419.749.4007. The drawing will take place on Sunday, September 23, at 1 p.m. at Edgewood Park. Tickets are $15. The grand prize is $825 in cash and ticket purchasers need not be present to win. Door prizes will be given away throughout the festival but those whose names are drawn must be present to win a door prize.
