DELPHOS — The Lincolnview cross country teams competed at the Delphos St John’s Invitational on Saturday. The boys’ team took home the runner-up trophy, placing second behind Columbus Grove and 16 points ahead of Crestview.
Bayley Tow placed fifth overall in the race in a time of 17:17. He was followed by teammates Jeff Jacomet (17:45) and Ben Bilimek (17:46), who were 10th and 11th, respectively. Finishing the top five for the Lancers were Alex Rodriguez (18:16), who was 17th, and Skyler Whitaker (18:53), who finished 31st. Trevor Neate and Angelo Katalenas rounded out the top sevenb.
“The boys really responded today. We ran with great composure and passion and looked particularly strong the second half of the race,” said Lincolnview Coach Matt Langdon. “This is the team that we thought we could be over the summer and during camp and it was nice to see them this early in the season.
“It’s a great start,” Coach Langdon added. “All 18 guys really ran the right way and that made for a very exciting day. Our challenge now is to take that effort and improve upon it when we race at Wayne Trace this Tuesday.”
Top finishers for the Lancer girls were freshman Anna Gorman, who placed 20th in a time of 22:40. Taylor Miller placed 32nd in a time of 23:37 and Mikinzie Dull finished in a time of 31:49.
“I liked how the girls ran today. Anna had a great race for it being her first high school competition,” said Coach Langdon. “She is only going to get better as she learns to race the extra mile. Taylor has shown tremendous improvement and ran by far her most competitive race of her career.”
