Wassenberg Camera Club News 2/9/11

By Rex Dolby

Curves will be the competition theme in prints and slides when the Camera Club meets Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7:00 pm at the Art Center on S. Washington St.

Curves are evident throughout nature in the way a stream flows, a tree or branch arches, the neck of long necked birds arc as they swim or feed, and the  human or animal body takes form.

Man has done his share of adding curves to our world as well.  Roads, bridges, fences, architectural details, automobile, marine, and aircraft design, all exhibit curves.

In some cases, it is form follows function that produces the use of curves in industry or art, but for the photographer, it’s the fact that curves are pleasing to the eye and often can be used to lead the viewer into or out of the picture. Curves just seem to make the picture more pleasant, and to take the time to view the subject from different angles till a curve appears in the composition will pay off in a superior photo.

There should be a large number of great pictures to enjoy. Visitors are always welcome and there are no steps between the parking lot and the main gallery where the meeting is held.
