The Fox’s Den Golf Course, headed by Golf Professional Keith VanDeventer, hosted the Division II girls’ golf sectionals. With the temperatures hovering around 50 degrees and the threat of rain looming, the 10 teams and four individuals attempted to punch their ticket to the Division II district tournament next Monday. Only three teams and three individuals will make the trip.
The Lima Central Catholic Lady Thunderbirds captured first place honors with a fine team score of 364.

LCC was led by match medalist Shelby Warner’s 77. Warner was the only golfer to shoot in the 70s on this difficult day and course. The Lady Redskins of St. Henry just nipped the Lincolnview Lady Lancers for second place, posting a team score of 397 to the Lancers 398. Both teams qualified for next week’s tournament.
The three individuals not on qualifying teams that will advance include Kelsey Koesters of Coldwater, who was runner-up medalist with an 85; and Marissa Conrad and Claire Fischer, both of Minster. Conrad bested Fischer by an 86 to 92 count and finished in the third overall position.
The Lancers were led in scoring by senior Amanda Kocab, who posted the fourth best score of the day with an 87. Close behind was classmate Kaitlyn Brant, who tallied an 88 for fifth best score of the day. Rounding out the Lancers team score was junior Macey Ashbaugh with a 102 and freshman Mikenna Klinger with a 121.
“We came out with a score in mind and it was to shoot under 400 today,” said Lincolnview Head Coach Brad Doidge. “The girls started out on a rollercoaster, playing some solid holes while allowing some other holes to get away from them.”
At the turn the Lancers had a team score of 198.
“At the turn, I knew we were right in the mix with St. Henry and a few other schools,” Doidge added. “I tried to keep the girls focused on our team goal and they accomplished it. They deserve a lot of credit for staying the course and qualifying for next week’s tournament.”
Wayne Trace’s Emily Linder just missed out on a chance to go to districts with a score of 93. The rest of the Lady Raider team consisted of: Paige Rahrig (112), Karla Mosier (118), and Michala Elliott (126). Parkway was represented by three individuals. Terra Walls posted a score of 105, while Brenna Bazle had a 127 by Brenna Brazle, and Autumn Stetler shot 134. Liz Dellinger was unable to finish her round for the Panthers.
Team scores: 1. LCC 364, 2. St. Henry 397, 3. Lincolnview 398, 4. Coldwater 419, 5. Marion Local 425, 6. Minster 442, 7. New Bremen 443, 8. Wayne Trace 459, 9. Paulding 488, and 10. Parkway.
The Lancers will travel to Sycamore Springs Golf Course next Monday, October 1, for their chance to punch their ticket to Columbus and the state Division II golf tournament. To do so, Lincolnview will have to face many good northwest Ohio golf teams and individuals.
