Latta a sponsor of anti-carbon tax bill

Information submitted

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) cosponsored two separate concurrent resolutions opposing a federal carbon tax. Latta issued the following statement regarding his support for these resolutions:

“During a time when many families and local manufacturers are already facing financial hardships, we cannot impose a tax increase that will result in higher energy prices,” Latta said. “Many people in northwest Ohio drive many miles to and from work every day and will be directly affected by a carbon tax that will drive up the cost of energy.

“Increased energy costs will also impede our advancement towards domestic energy independence, which has proved to be a major source of job growth throughout Ohio,” the congressman added.

H.Con.Res. 142, which is sponsored by U.S. Representative David McKinley (R-W.Va.) and has gathered bipartisan support, specifically opposes a carbon tax on fuels for electricity and transportation. H.Con.Res. 144, sponsored by Representative Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.), expresses the sense of Congress that a carbon tax is not in the economic interest of the country.
