Marlins do well in recent swim meets

On December 8, eight Van Wert Marlin swimmers traveled to Shelby to compete in the Shelby YMCA Invitational.

All of Van Wert’s swimmers placed in multiple events. In Girls 10 and Under, Emma Pollock finished first in all of her events (200-meter freestyle, 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle) and Jamie Burenga finished first in the 100-metet IM and 50-meter breaststroke.

In 11-12 Girls, Risa Pollock won the 50-meter breaststroke and took second in the 400- and 50-meter freestyle races; Katie McVaigh took first in two events: 100-meter IM and 50-meter backstroke, and second in the 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle.

In 11-12 Boys, Dylan Neate finished third in the 50-meter backstroke and the 50-meter freestyle; Aaron Stant took first in the 50-meter butterfly and then second in three other events (400- and 50-meter freestyles and 50-meter backstroke).

In 13-14 Boys, Colton Deschner took first in the 400- and 50-meter freestyle races, the 100-meter freestyle and second in the 100-meter breaststroke.

In 13-14 Girls, Skylar Lehman took second in the 200- and 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke and third in the 50-meter freestyle.

The 11-12 Girls 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle team (Emma Pollock, Risa Pollock, Jamie Burenga and Katie McVaigh) took first in both events.

On December 15, the Marlins hosted the Williams County YMCA in a dual meet at the Van Wert YMCA.  The Marlins split the meet, with the boys taking a 197-125 advantage and the girls losing 274-193.

Taking first place in all of their individual events were Luke Miller (4); Dylan Neate (4); Aaron Stant (4) and Sam Easley (5).

Other swimmers with first place finishes were: Tyra McClain (1); Gracie Mull (1); Emma Pollock (2); Daniel Miller (1) and Bethay Fast (3). All three of the Marlins relay teams — the girls’ 13-14 200-meter medley (Erin Miller, Risa Pollock, Bethany Fast, Madison Paquette): the girls 11-12 200-meter freestyle team (Emma Pollock, Jamie Burenga, Risa Pollock, Katie McVaigh) and 11-12 boys’ 200-meter freestyle team (Dylan Neate, Ian Rex, Daniel Miller, Aaron Stant) — finished in first place.

11-12 Girls: Katie McVaigh – 2nd 50 Fly and 50 Back; 3rd 50 Free and 100 Free.  Risa Pollock 2nd 50 Breast; 3rd 100 IM; 4th 100 Free. Erin Miller – 2nd 200 Free; 3rd 50 Fly and 50 Back; 4th 50 Free.

11-12 Boys: Aaron Stant– 1st 400 Free, 50 Free, 50 Fly and 50 Back. Dylan Neate – 1st 200 Free, 100 Free, 50 Breast and 100 IM.

13-14 Girls: Bethany Fast – 1st 100 Fly, 100 Back and 100 Breast; 2nd 50 Free.  Madison Pauquette – 2nd 200 Free and 100 Free; 3rd 50 Free and 100 Breast.

13-14 Boys: Sam Easley – 1st 200 Free, 100 Fly, 400 Free, 100 Back and 50 Free,
