Mary Lou Pissarro

Mary Lou Pissarro, 63, of Van Wert, was taken home by the Lord at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

Mary Lou Pissarro

Mary was born December 5, 1949, in Middle Point, to beloved parents Curt and Edith Hammond, who preceded her in death. On January 8, 1981, she married John Pissarro, who was not only her husband, but also one of her best friends throughout her life. He survives.

Mary’s brothers, Orville Hammond and Sam Hammond, also preceded her in death.

Mary leaves behind two daughters who she loved unconditionally: Michele Espinoza, married to her beloved son-in-law, Gary Espinoza Sr. of Van Wert, and Jennifer Berget of Racine, Wis.; five grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life: Gary Espinoza Jr., Ritchie Espinoza, Vanessa “V” Espinoza, all of Van Wert, and Elyssia Wagner and Marisa Wagner, both of Racine; and a brother, Jim Hammond of Convoy, who she loved dearly.

Mary Lou Pissarro was a truly remarkable woman throughout her life. She attended Madisonville (Ky.) Vocational School, where she graduated at the top of her class of 2,500 with an “A” average to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She went on to work at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s pediatric unit in Nashville, Tenn., and also St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

One word described Mary Lou, that word is  “perseverance.” No matter what situation was put in front of her, Mary could overcome it. No matter how tough the circumstances, she would never give up. She passed down that unbreakable resiliency to her children and grandchildren, who came to her for wisdom, security, joyous laughter and, most importantly, undying love. Mary’s spirit will live on in all the lives she has so generously touched, which is why Mary decided that she would not have a funeral service or viewing and to be cremated. She wanted the memories of her to bring relief to everyone close to her, not the sight of her empty shell.

Mary Lou Pissarro will always be loved and dearly missed. The Lord has received a very special angel and now she looks upon us all, smiling, free and just waiting to see all of her loved ones again.
