Area man cited for leaving child alone

Delphos PD information

DELPHOS — A Delphos man has been charged with child endangering for allegedly leaving a 2-year-old child he was supposed to be watching alone.

Donovan Ford, 24, was charged in the case after he admitted he left the 2-year-old he was supposed to be watching unattended. He will appear in Lima Municipal Court on the charge.

Police were called to an area near the intersection of Main and Lincoln streets after a passerby found a 2-year-old child wandering the area alone without a coat or other warm clothing. Officers called for an EMS squad from Delphos Fire Department to tend to the shivering child and then performed a door-to-door search seeking the child’s residence.

A resident of the area then identified the child and told police where the youngster lived. Officers then went to the residence identified, where they found the front door standing open and no one home.

Allen County Children’s Services was then contacted to assist with the child and a neighbor later told police that a family member had just returned to the residence.

Ford, who is the child’s uncle, was then interviewed and admitted he was watching the child, but left the child unattended.
