Lady Knights get win over St. John’s

CONVOY — The Crestview Lady Knights played pretty much even with the Delphos Lady Jays for three quarters, but shut the Blue Jays down in the second stanza to win the teams’ non-conference battle 65-53.

Emily Bauer led the Knights with 21 points, while Lindsey Motycka added 12 points and Mackenzie Riggenbach scored 10 points for Crestview. Katie Vorst led St. John’s with 15 points, while Jessica Recker scored 12 points and Emilie Fischbach added 10 counters for Delphos.

Crestview trailed the Blue Jays by two, 18-16, at the end of a quarter, but blew Delphos away, 15-2, in the second quarter to lead, 31-20, at the half. St. John’s shaved a bucket off the lead in the third quarter and trailed by nine, 40-31, at the three-quarter mark, but the Lady Knights kept their composure and ended the game with a 25-22 fourth quarter to win.

Crestview made 20 of 34 field goal attempts (58.8 percent), including 5 of 11 from three-point range (45.5 percent). The Knights also canned 20 of 27 free throw attempts (74.1 percent). Delphos hit 19 of 42 from the field (45.2 percent), was 5 of 12 from three-point range (41.7 percent) and made 10 of 19 free throw attempts (52.6 percent).

Crestview dominated on the boards, bringing down 26 (9 offensive) to 11 (4 offensive) for the Blue Jays. The Knights also had more turnovers, though, losing the ball 14 times to 6 for St. John’s.

Crestview is now 13-1 on the season.
