AAUW sets 10th Sister to Sister Summit
The American Association of University Women will be presenting its 10th annual Sister to Sister Summit for girls in grades 6-8 on Saturday, February 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the YWCA of Van Wert County in Van Wert.
The summit is open to all Van Wert County Schools, as well as to Parkway and Delphos. This year’s theme is “Being You: How to Get There in Today’s World”.
The focus this year will be on providing participants with the tools needed to provide harmony in their lives, while trying to balance all that is expected of them. Problem solving, goal setting and personal health and wellness are some of the tools that will be explored. Speakers will also talk about how they became interested in their career choices ,since education is an important element of the S2S summits.

- Van Wert Municipal Court Judge Jill Leatherman — “Real Issues Our Young Women Face”
- Julie Gauvey, MSW, social services director at Van Wert County Hospital — “Ways to Deal Effectively With Others in Your Life”
- Peak Community Wellness Center Staff/YWCA — “Fun Ways to Energize With Movement”
- Jean Gemmer, RN, Delphos St John’s Schools — “Do This! Not That!” Tips for Healthy Living
- Local attorney Collette Carcione — “Never Give Up On Your Dreams”
- Hope Wallace, director of Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert — “ Art, a Fun Way to Reduce Stress”
- Maggie Ditto, sophomore engineering student at the University of Toledo — “My Journey Towards a “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Career”
The hands-on event, which includes breakfast bars, lunch, goodie bags, door prizes and all materials, is free to the participants. Packets for registration will be available at the school offices this coming Monday, February 11. Registration deadline is Tuesday, February 19.
