Marlins do well in 3 area swim meets

The Van Wert Marlins competed in three matches since mid-January.

On January 19, the Marlins traveled to Defiance for a dual meet at the Defiance YMCA, where the locals dropped a close match to a larger team.

Sam Easley finished first in all four of his individual events. Also claiming first place finishes were Gracie Mull (2); Luke Miller (3); Emma Pollock (3); Jamie Burenga (1); Daniel Miller (3); Risa Pollock (2); Erin Miller (3); Aaron Stant (1); Dylan Neate (2); Skylar Lehman (1) and Bethany Fast (3).

In relay action, the girls’ 200-yard freestyle team (Emma Pollock, Jamie Burenga, Risa Pollock, Erin Miller) finished first, as did the boys’ 200-yard freestyle team (Aaron Stant, Colton Deschner, Dylan Neate, Sam Easley).

On January 26, four Marlin swimmers made the trip to Temperance, Mich., to compete in the Francis YMCA Border Battle Invitational. The two girl swimmers (Emma and Risa Pollock) representing Van Wert finished in 11th place out of 15 teams.

On Saturday, February 2, the Marlins traveled to Tiffin to compete in the Tiffin YMCA Invitational.  This was the final Invitational of the regular season and featured more than 320 swimmers from 15 area YMCAs.

The Marlins finished 10th overall as a team, with the girls taking 11th place and the boys taking eighth place.  Sam Easley led Van Wert by finishing first in all five of his individual events. The girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team (Emma Pollock, Erin Miller, Risa Pollock, Katie McVaigh) finished fourth.
