Knights end regular season with win
Crestview boys’ basketball news
CONVOY — The Crestview Knights continued their winning ways with a solid 70-33 victory over Ada in Northwest Conference action on Friday. It was both teams’ final regular season game prior to the start of sectional tournament action next week.
The Knights are now 19-3 on the year and 7-2 in the NWC — good enough for second place behind Spencerville and Lima Central Catholic — while Ada falls to 6-15 overall and 1-8 in league play.
Crestview led by seven points, 16-9, at the end of the first quarter and had pushed that to 13 points, 32-19, by halftime. The Knights then outscored Ada 38-14 in the second half to win going away — or possibly running away, since the Bulldogs just couldn’t keep up with the Crestview offensive onslaught.
Damian Helm led the Knights with 23 points, while Tyson Bolenbaugh added 9 and Connor Lautzenheiser and Preston Zaleski each scored 8 points for Crestview. Austin Dumbaugh was the only Bulldog in double figures, with 10 points.
The Knights made 30 of 56 field goal attempts (53.6 percent), and were 2 of 10 (20 percent) from beyond the arc. Crestview was 8 of 11 from the free throw line (72.7 percent). The Bulldogs were 14 of 40 from the field (35 percent), and didn’t make any of their nine three-point attempts. Ada was 5 of 7 from the charity stripe (71.4 percent).
Crestview won the rebounding battle, 25-19, and also had fewer turnovers, 10-19, than the Bulldogs.
