Van Wert independent

A Cecil woman was killed in a Paulding County accident, while a Van Wert motorist got lucky when his vehicle was hit by a train behind the Van Wert County Courthouse early Friday morning.

Kayla Bidlack, 30, of Cecil, died of injuries received in an accident that occurred Thursday evening at a dangerous intersection along U.S. 24.

According to the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Bidlack was a passenger in a 1996 Geo Prism driven by Tiffini E. Aldrich, 21, also of Cecil, that pulled into the path of a semi tractor-trailer rig driven west on U.S. 24 by Roy Pierre, 44, of Quebec, Canada, at the intersection with Paulding County Road 87.

According to troopers, Aldrich, who was seriously injured in the accident, was northbound on the county road when she drove into the path of the semi. Aldrich, who was apparently six months pregnant, was life-flighted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., with what was reported as “life-threatening” injuries. She is listed in “serious” condition this morning at Parkview. The truck driver was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.

In Van Wert, police are seeking information on a pickup truck-train accident that occurred at 2:10 a.m. Friday.

According to police, a green 2000 Ford Ranger was struck by an eastbound Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern freight train on a stretch of track behind the Courthouse adjacent to Jackson Street. According to police, the driver of the pickup was able to get out of the vehicle prior to the collision.

The accident remains under investigation and police are asking that anyone with information on the accident call the station at 419.238.2462.
