Victoria Rhoades
Victoria Rhoades, daughter of the late Bernard and Lucy Unterbrink, passed away February 28, 2013, at the age of 90.
Victoria was born July 9, 1922, and was raised in Ohio. She was one of 11 children, which also included Louis, Donald, Linus, Walter, Ruth, Alphonse, Bernadette, Juilianne, Carol and Ralph. On April 3, 1945, she married Franklin Guthrie Rhoades. Together, they traveled throughout the United States and Germany supporting Franklin’s position as an officer in the United States Air Force.
Victoria’s greatest accomplishment was creating a beautiful family of five children: Candis Wall of Grand Junction, Colo., Kenneth Rhoades (deceased), Kathleen Coon of Damascus, Ore., Debra Hawkins of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Ronald Rhoades of Vancouver, Wash. At the time of her death, Victoria was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Victoria spent her later years in Grand Junction, Colo., near her daughter, Candis, and her family, with many visits from family and friends.
Victoria loved to dance, cook, sew, arrange flowers, decorate cakes, and play a good game of cards. She received the highly prized honor of “Yard of the Year” in Grand Junction.
In celebration of her exceptional life, a viewing will be held at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, March 9. Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, followed by Victoria’s burial in Woodland Cemetery.
