Optimists list Oratorical Contest winners

The Optimist Club of Van Wert held its annual oratorical contest based on the topic on “Why My Voice is Important.”

Kollin Weiss won first place in the competition for boys and Courtney Byrd won first place in the competition for girls. They each received gold medallions and checks for $150. Both winners will advance to the regional/state level of the competition for the opportunity to win college scholarships.

Second place winners, Wade Healey and Sarah Klinger received silver medallions and checks for $100; third place contestants Johnathan Brake and Megan Barnhart received bronze medallions and $50 checks.

Marshall Healey and Courtney Cearns also competed in the contest and received certificates of participation.

The Oratorical Contest is one of several positive service projects for youth provided locally by the Optimist Club of Van Wert. The club meets every Thursday and is always looking for new members. Call 419.965.2731 or find the club’s page on Facebook to learn more.
