Lois Elaine Boyer

Lois Elaine Boyer, 74, of Summerfield, Fla., and formerly of Van Wert, died at 7:34 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Tuscany House Hospice Center in Summerfield, following a lengthy battle with breast cancer.

She was born December 14, 1938, in Arbuckle, Calif., the daughter of the late Warren A. and Edna Mae Carey. On December 15, 1956, she married Howard Thomas Boyer, who preceded her in death on May 23, 2006.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie A. (Michael) Medford of Van Wert and Carrie L. (Dan) Finkhousen of Blythewood, S.C., and formerly of Van Wert; one son, Clinton Thomas (Johanna) Boyer of Fairfax Station, Va.; a sister, Sheila Slechta of Roseville, Calif.; and six grandsons.

A brother, Chester “Buzz” Carey, also preceded her in death in October 1988.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Chaplain (Major) Dan Finkhousen officiating. Burial will be in Hartford Cemetery in Spencerville.

Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and noon-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
