McCoy, Conder to appear at grocery

Information submitted

WANE-TV Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Conder and Van Wert County Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy will be at Ruler Foods today from 4-7 p.m. to promote weather safety.

Both Conder and McCoy will help program NOAA weather radios and answer questions people may have about severe weather. The promotional event is part of WANE-TV’s spring program to get more weather radios in the public’s hands and to help program the radios.

The inexpensive radios will also be available for sale at Ruler Foods and people are encouraged to stop by and purchase one of the units for their homes, McCoy said, adding that he and Conder are also happy to program previously-purchased radios.

“Weather radios are the first line of defense against severe weather and will activate the moment watches and warnings are issued for our area,” McCoy explained. “The alert is particularly important for severe weather in the middle of the night, as it will wake you up and give a statement on the warning to keep you and your family safe.”
