History comes alive!
Van Wert Elementary School held its annual Civil War History Day on Monday, and students had the opportunity to hear presentations from re-enactors portraying a number of historical figures, such as Abraham Lincoln, Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee, and former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass, as well as a Union soldier and a Union artillery unit (above), and also learned the dances (below) and clothes of the period. The program is coordinated by VWES teacher Dave Walker. (photos by Dave Mosier/Van Wert independent)
