David C. Smalley

David C. Smalley, 89, of Rockford, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 28, 1924, in Blackcreek Township, Mercer County, the son of the late Wilbur and Adah (Alspaugh) Smalley. On June 2, 1951, he married Margery Smith, who survives.

Other survivors include a son, Robert (Susan) Smalley of Rockford; one daughter, Kathy (Thomas) Custer of Marysville; a brother, Thomas Smalley of Celina; and three grandchildren.

A brother, Jacob Smalley; and two sisters, Carrie Sipe and Bessie Hoffines, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Chip Steffy officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Calling hours are from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: State of the Heart Hospice or Rockford United Methodist Church.
