Paulding County man shot in stand-off

HAVILAND — An unidentified man is hospitalized as a result of an hours-long standoff that occurred at a rural Paulding County residence early Wednesday morning.

According to Paulding County Sheriff Jason Landers, deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 95 in Blue Creek Township, just northwest of Haviland, on a report of a suicidal man armed with a gun.

The man, who has not been identified at this time, barricaded himself in the residence and several hours of negotiations were conducted in an effort to try to resolve the situation. The Allen County SWAT Team was also called in on a mutual aid request.

Eventually, deputies entered the residence to secure the man and shots were fired, wounding the man, who is currently being treated for related injuries.

The crime scene is being processed by investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

A press conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday and more information will be released at that time.
