‘Safe & Secure’ sessions presented

Information submitted

Deb Kleinhenz recently presented Safe and Secure sessions to first graders at Van Wert Elementary School and Lincolnview Elementary School. Kleinhenz is a retired first grade teacher who taught in the Van Wert City School District.

The students learned about safety topics such as “Safety at Play”, “Bullying” (getting along with others), “Taste Only What’s Safe”, “Stranger Safety”, “Good Touch-Bad Touch” and “Why Rules are Important”.  The class is taught in half-hour sessions once a week for six weeks. Each student receives literature about different safety issues and a Certificate of Completion.

Safe and Secure will be presented again in the fall for area first grade classes interested in this program.  The Safe and Secure program received a grant from The Van Wert County Foundation, while Buckeye Youth is a United Way agency.
