“Landscape” theme of recent contest

By Douglas Heckler
Opening the July 11 meeting, President Will Hawkins expressed thanks for the moving preparations made by members to prepare the studio for the move to the new facility in the renovated Armory. Chris Wilson advised that the Van Wert County fair book was now on line and could be accessed for review of entry requirements and classes. A brief discussion on the progress at the Armory was presented to the membership present. Finally, it was iterated that the club is coming into its busy season where we will need volunteers to support the photography exhibit at the fair and the support for the Wassenberg 37th Annual October Photography Exhibit. Some upcoming dates are: August 10 entry deadline for the Van Wert County Fair photo exhibit (categories are: At the Fair, Architecture, Weather, Around the Farm, and Transportation), Aug 25 and 26 for take-in and judging support for the fair’s photo exhibition.“Landscape,” encompassing cityscape, seascapes, and cloudscapes, was the theme for the July Wassenberg Camera Club’s competition. In slides, Chris Wilson took top honors with a photograph of the Onomea Falls, located in the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden on the Big Island of Hawaii. In second place was Virginia Thatcher with a photograph of rock formations across the Merced River in Yosemite National Park. President Will Hawkins took honors in the print category with a view of the New York City skyline and Chris Wilson again took second place with a photo of a Hawaiian Valley.
After the judging of the club meeting competition, a critique and explanation of the vision and processing for each shot entered in the slide group was given with all members present participating.
The next Wassenberg Camera Club meeting will be August 8 at 7 p.m. at the art center with the topic for competition being “Vegetables”.
