VW girls’ tennis team loses to Greenville

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team got off to a rocky start, losing 5-0 to an accomplished Greenville team on Tuesday in both teams’ season opener.

Van Wert’s No. 1 singles player, Claire Butler, lost 6-3, 6-2 to Sophia Navas-Davis, while Lady Cougar Sydney Dull lost 6-1, 6-0 to Michelle Borgerding at No. 2 singles. Ali Moreland rallied in the second set against Greenville’s No. 3 singles player, Raquel Navas-Davis, but lost the match 6-0, 6-4.

In doubles play, Van Wert’s No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Stemen and Sydney Felger and No. 2 doubles team of Tabatha Tennie and Angela Li both lost by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0, to, respectively, the Greenville doubles teams of Abby Monnin and Madison Bixler, and Rachel Britsch and Holly Cameron.

Van Wert is now 0-1 on the season, while Greenville is 1-0.
